Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT)

SBIRT is a means to identify and intervene with patients who use alcohol or drugs in a manner that puts them at increased risk for injury, medical complications, and dependence. is a collaborative project of the Governor’s Institute on Substance Abuse, the NC Division of Mental Health, Development Disabilities, and Substance Abuse Services (DMHDDSAS), SAMHSA/CSAT, the NC Center of Excellence for Integrated Care, Community Care of North Carolina, and other organizations in the state working to promote evidence-based integrated care.
